DOC Whareroa Project - Whareroa

Location: Kapiti Coast

Type of Fence: Post & Rail Fencing & Gates, Timber Bollards

Customer Brief:

Whareroa Farm is a recreation reserve offering walking, picnicking, biking, and horse-riding, with links to the adjoining Akatarawa Forest and Queen Elizabeth Park across State Highway 1. When the farm shed conversion was planned, the DoC staff approached us.

Some of the DoC staff had seen our fences around the country and they knew we produced the type and quality of finish that they were after.

The character of the fence needed to fit with the interface between visitors and the farm. The location is adjacent to State Highway 1 and is seen by approx 20,000 cars per day so it needed to be aesthetically pleasing too. We were sent a site plan and throughout the duration of the job, changes were made which needed to be responded to quickly.

Some custom extra long posts were needed and manufactured as they doubled as verandah posts on the original rustic building, with the fence rebated into these verandah posts. In addition The Department of Conservation wanted to deal with as few companies as possible and Beams & Timber Direct Ltd were able to supply all bollards for the carpark. The end result was that DoC achieved what they set out to, with a fence in character with the other buildings and a one stop shop for this high grade fence option together with all bollards and removable, lockable bollard hardware.
